Christ Left His Throne of Glory

Christ left His throne in Glory
Where angels’ voices rang
In worship and in honour
As before His throne they sang

Became a man rejected
Despised and spat upon
By men who had no reason

Through miracles and healing
He ministered to men
He spoke the Word in truth and love
Each Word a precious gem

But many hated hearing truth
For sin dwelt in their soul
They picked up stones to stone Him
His death became their goal

One night within the garden
He prayed in Gethsemane
He agonized till blood and sweat
Flowed forth because of me

And as the drops fell to the ground
He drank the cup of gall
So that I wouldn’t pay the price
That came with Adam’s fall

A friend betrayed Him on that night
Betrayed Him with a kiss
Christ’s life and friendship valued
In his heart as little worth

Beaten until His visage
Was battered gruesomely
Then made to walk up Calvary’s hill
To die in agony

The crown pierced deep into His skull
Nails pierced His hands and feet
His bones exposed to mortal view
Yet not once did He plead

His thoughts were never of Himself
Except to say: I thirst
His tongue was parched and swollen
But still He put me first

He wouldn’t drink the drug they gave
To ease His awful pain
He suffered every part of it
And took all of sin’s shame

The devils thought they’d won the war
When Jesus died that day
But through His death He conquered sin
And opened up the Way

Hell had no power over Him
Death lost its hold on me
When Jesus rose up from the grave
In total victory
