How it hurts to see a man
Once so big and strong
Reduced to a mere shadow of himself
Yet lingering on
Slowly dying, yet fighting hard
To escape death’s door
Hating life, yet scared of dying
Fearing what’s in store
How it hurts to see a woman
Mother and a wife
Imprisoned in a wheelchair
In the prime of life
Unable to live normally
Just watching life pass by
Unable to adjust herself
And always wondering why
How it hurts to see a boy
Who should be playing free
Unable to walk without help
Because he cannot see
Knowing only darkness
Not comprehending day
Stumbling, often falling
Over objects in the way
There are multitudes of people
Living in despair
Not living, just existing
Seeing no hope anywhere
Imprisoned in the darkness
They need a light to see
They need to know that Jesus came
To set the captives free
They need to know that by the stripes
Of Jesus they were healed
And that if they would just believe
Their needs would be fulfilled
How would they know unless they’re told
Lord, send Your labourers
That everyone might hear Your Word
Throughout this sin filled earth
