The Messenger

A Dove once saved some soldiers
Surrounded by their foe
During a bloody battle
Many years ago

It was a soldier’s mascot
And it was their last hope
Of fetching re-enforcements
By delivering their note

The little dove flew bravely
Though wounded in it’s flight
With broken leg and crippled wing
Continued in its plight

At last, mortally wounded
It reached its journey’s end
And in its death saved many lives
This worthy little friend

The dove reminds me of Christ Jesus
Who left His Heavenly throne
Our lives were in His hands
He had to take the message Home

Though hacked and bruised and bleeding
And nailed upon a tree
Mortally wounded for our sins
He died to set us free

His message was delivered
I’ve paid the price of sin
My blood has washed man white as snow
Death has no hold on him
