There Walks a Man

There walks a man so wonderful
So merciful and good
He talks about the Father
Gives five thousand people food

He gives sight to the blind man
The dumb He makes to talk
He heals the dying lepers
He lets the crippled walk

He loves the little children
He holds them tenderly
He tells them of the Scriptures
As they sit upon His knee

He casts out countless demons
He’s even raised the dead
But now He walks to Calvary
For He’ll die in our stead

His love is so immense that He
Will give His precious life
To save this wretched sinful world
He’ll be the sacrifice

His back is torn and bleeding
His mouth is parched and dry
He falls beneath the heavy cross
But utters not one cry

How can they let Him suffer so
And mock and jeer at Him
They don’t realize that His torment
Will save them from their sin

He’s had no sleep, nor food, nor drink
He’s weak, His pain is great
They’ve tortured Him in jealousy
They feel such vicious hate

The soldiers drive a nail into each hand
And through His feet
They lift the cross, His body jars
His followers all weep

Above His head a scroll is placed
The words thereon are clear
THE KING OF THE JEWS, it reads
‘Was placed there as a jeer

The words are true, but they don’t know
That He’s the King of all
He asks for water, but they give Him
Vinegar and gall

Come down from the cross
If You’re the Son of God, they shout
He prays, then bows His head and dies
And yet the soldiers doubt

They pierce His side and blood and water
Flow out of that wound
He cannot hang much longer
For twill be the Sabbath soon

The Earth grows dark and trembles
Rocks roll down the mountain side
Even nature mourns because
The Lord was crucified

For Our Sakes

He looked upon the world and saw
The suffering of mankind
The sin, the sickness and the pain
The deaf, the dumb, the blind

He saw the lame and the diseased
He saw the battered wives
He saw the drunkards and the thieves
He saw the wasted lives

The addicts and the prostitutes
The child abuse, the strife
And in compassion born of love
Became the sacrifice

A cruel crown of thorns He bore
His face was spat upon
His back whipped open to the bone
This man who did no wrong

Nailed to a cross for all to see
In nakedness and shame
Became our sin to set us free
That we could live again

The earth shook and the day grew dark
The rocks split open wide
For nature agonized when Jesus
Hung His head and died

Christ Left His Throne of Glory

Christ left His throne in Glory
Where angels’ voices rang
In worship and in honour
As before His throne they sang

Became a man rejected
Despised and spat upon
By men who had no reason

Through miracles and healing
He ministered to men
He spoke the Word in truth and love
Each Word a precious gem

But many hated hearing truth
For sin dwelt in their soul
They picked up stones to stone Him
His death became their goal

One night within the garden
He prayed in Gethsemane
He agonized till blood and sweat
Flowed forth because of me

And as the drops fell to the ground
He drank the cup of gall
So that I wouldn’t pay the price
That came with Adam’s fall

A friend betrayed Him on that night
Betrayed Him with a kiss
Christ’s life and friendship valued
In his heart as little worth

Beaten until His visage
Was battered gruesomely
Then made to walk up Calvary’s hill
To die in agony

The crown pierced deep into His skull
Nails pierced His hands and feet
His bones exposed to mortal view
Yet not once did He plead

His thoughts were never of Himself
Except to say: I thirst
His tongue was parched and swollen
But still He put me first

He wouldn’t drink the drug they gave
To ease His awful pain
He suffered every part of it
And took all of sin’s shame

The devils thought they’d won the war
When Jesus died that day
But through His death He conquered sin
And opened up the Way

Hell had no power over Him
Death lost its hold on me
When Jesus rose up from the grave
In total victory

Endless Love has Ransomed Me

Endless Love has ransomed me
Endless Love has set me free
Endless Love gave all for me
On the cross of Calvary

Endless Love, love full of grace
Shines within my Saviour’s face
Endless Love, eternal spring
Flows from God, a healing stream

Endless Love, I trust in You
You have made my life anew
Glorious, sovereign King above
Keep me in Your endless love

Through blood and Sweat

Through blood and sweat and agony
Your love showed on Your face
Though marred beyond description
Your eyes portrayed Your grace

Though pierced by cruel Jerusalem thorns
Pressed deep into Your scalp
You gave deliverance to man
Who cried to You for help

The soldier’s lashes cut so deep
Your bones were in full view
Your beard was plucked out savagely
And people spat on You

Yet not once did You curse the men
Who caused such awful pain
In silence drank the bitter cup
Your suffering was our gain

As nails pierced through Your hands and feet
Excruciatingly
You prayed for their forgiveness
While they nailed You to a tree

What greater love in all the Earth
Than Yours, my Lord, on high
That willingly You suffered so
For someone such as I

The Horror we are Guilty of

The horror we are guilty of
Because of all our sin
The penalty for sin is death
God laid it all on Him

In utmost grace God gave His Son
To be the sacrifice
Because of love too great to tell
He came to pay the price

From Glory came the Word of God
To dwell among His own
Made flesh within a virgin’s womb
To bring His lost sheep home

Though tried and tempted, without sin
He came to set us free
And bravely staggered ‘neath our load
Of sin to Calvary

Excruciating though the pain
His heart was filled with love
Forgive them for their sin, He cried
And God heard from above

LIKE DOGS OF THE WILD

Like dogs of the wild
They tore at Your flesh
And plucked out Your beard
In a frenzy for death

Unsightly, disfigured
By hands cruel with hate
Was it sane that these actions
Their hearts could elate

Barbaric, demonic
Unthinkable deeds
Yet allowed by the Father
To meet all our needs

These atrocities caused
By our fall from God’s grace
And love made You suffer
And die in our place

All the powers of darkness
Rejoiced at Your pain
Determined to kill You
But You rose again

Now they tremble in unbridled
Anger and fear
Knowing You’ve won
And that judgment is near

At the time that’s appointed
All creatures shall bow
And confess You are Lord
And Yours all the power

Born Without the Stain of Sin

Born without the stain of sin
Rejected and despised by men
A tender shoot in desert sand
He flourished in God’s mighty hand

He never caused another pain
He never sought for worldly gain
Yet He was hated, mocked and feared
But also loved and much revered

He bore our sorrows, bore our pain
Bore our infirmities and shame
He bore our illness and disease
And caused the dragon’s reign to cease

All our sin and misery
Nailed in His body to a tree
He set us free from death and Hell
Because our Saviour loves us well
